چکیده
Abstract The shape and internal structure of an atomic nucleus can change significantly with increasing excitation energy, angular momentum, or isospin asymmetry. As example this structural evolution, linear-chain configurations in carbon heavier isotopes have been predicted for decades. Recent studies found non-stability 12 C while evidenced its appearance 16 C. It is then necessary to investigate the molecular structures 14 clarify exact location on nuclear chart where begins emerge, thus benchmark theoretical models. Here we show a cluster-decay experiment all final particles coincidentally detected, allowing high Q -value resolution, clear decay-path selection. Unambiguous spin-parity analyses are conducted, strongly evidencing emergence π -bond rotational band present results encourage further even longer chain neutron-rich nuclei.

The Vibration of a Linear Carbon Chain in Carbon Nanotubes
An explicit solution for the vibration of a carbon chain inside carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was obtained using continuum modeling of the van der Waals (vdW) interactions between them. The effect of the initial tensile force and the amplitude of the carbon chain as well as the radii of the CNTs on the vibration frequency were analyzed in detail, respectively. Our analytical results show that the vib...
متن کاملGenetic risk induced by carbon-14 generated by nuclear explosions.
In an earlier paper by Linus Pauling titled "Genetic and Somatic Effects of Carbon-14" (1), it is established that this by-product of nuclear explosions might induce greater genetic and somatic damage than previously assumed. Furthermore, Pauling states that the damage produced by carbon-14 that is incorporated into genetic material is responsible for only 10% of the total genetic damage genera...
متن کاملCarbon nanowire made of a long linear carbon chain inserted inside a multiwalled carbon nanotube.
A new type of one-dimensional (1D) carbon structure, carbon nanowires (CNWs), was discovered in the cathode deposits prepared by hydrogen arc discharge evaporation of carbon rods. Observation of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) indicates that a CNW consists of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWNT) with a long 1D linear carbon chain (C chain) inserted into its innermost tu...
متن کاملA one-dimensional extremely covalent material: monatomic carbon linear chain
Polyyne and cumulene of infinite length as the typical covalent one-dimensional (1D) monatomic linear chains of carbon have been demonstrated to be metallic and semiconductor (Eg = 1.859 eV), respectively, by first-principles calculations. Comparing with single-walled carbon nanotubes, the densities are evidently low and the thermodynamic properties are similar below room temperature but much d...
متن کامل14 Nuclear non - proliferation
Nuclear power holds the promise of a sustainable, affordable, carbon-friendly source of energy for the twenty-first century on a scale that can help meet the world's growing need for energy and slow the pace of global climate change. However, a global expansion of nuclear power also poses significant challenges. Nuclear power must be economically competitive, safe, and secure; its waste must be...
